Lowering cholesterol safely and naturally without the use of dangerous statin cholesterol lowering drugs
Lowering cholesterol through the use of prescription statin drugs such as Lipitor, Zocor, Pravachol, Lescol, Mevacor and Crestor can be hazardous to your health. Statin drugs may lower your cholesterol levels but do so at a very high cost in terms of health related side effects. Most people taking these drugs experience common side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, constipation and muscle aches. The most serious side effects, which can be life threatening, are elevated liver enzymes and statin myopathy (muscle pain and tenderness). In severe cases muscles cells can breakdown releasing myoglobin into the bloodstream which in turn can lead to kidney failure. In addition these drugs do very little if anything in regards to protecting your arteries or your heart.
Statin drugs deplete CoQ10 levels causing severe consequences to your health
Alternative health advocate and physician, Dr. Julian Whitaker, states that not a single study has shown that statin cholesterol lowering drugs benefit anyone over age 70 or women of any age. Statin cholesterol lowering drugs, including those mentioned, deplete coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) levels. Without adequate levels of CoQ10 life threatening conditions can develop. Statin drugs block the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase in the liver. By shutting down this enzyme the liver stops the manufacture of cholesterol and as a result cholesterol levels drop. However, the liver also manufactures CoQ10 using the same enzyme pathway and this can be disastrous. CoQ10 is essential since without it your cells cannot produce energy. Without sufficient cellular energy your cells cannot carry on essential life processes. This can lead to liver damage and myopathy (sore muscles and weakness) which, in fact, are exactly the same side effects created by using cholesterol lowering statin drugs! If CoQ10 levels become severely depleted it can most definitely lead to death.
If your currently taking statin drugs to lower your cholesterol you should immediately begin supplementing with CoQ10. Better yet, you should get completely off statin drugs by making healthy life style changes such as:
- avoid sugars and grains
- start taking Omega-3 fatty acid supplements. This supplement protects the cardiovascular system and your heart and is essential in reaching and maintaining good health. Omega-3 supplements can dramatically cholesterol levels but does it naturally without the life threatening side effects of statin drugs and it's cheaper too!
- begin taking CoQ10 supplements to give your cells the energy they need.
The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been repeatedly petitioned by concerned health professionals regarding the potential hazards of cholesterol lowering statin drugs and the effect it has on depleting CoQ10 levels. The agency plans to take action by placing warning labels on statin cholesterol-lowering drugs. The labeling changes would warn that these drugs will deplete CoQ10 (coenzyme Q10) levels which can cause potential life-threatening myopathies.
