Antioxidant supplements such as lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, vitamin C and vitamin E when taken together help protect your cells against aging and damage

An antioxidant supplement works by minimizing free radicals and related oxidation. Many diseases and ailments come from free radical damage within our cells. A free radical is a molecule with an unpaired electron. Such free radical molecules attempt to strip an electron from another molecule and in doing so can cause damage to compounds like lipids and proteins. Many diseases, such as cancer, can be attributed at least partially to free radical damage. Antioxidant vitamins lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), vitamin C and vitamin E can minimize and slow the damage caused by free radicals by binding with them and neutralizing them. This results in preventing oxidative damage before it occurs  thus the term antioxidant.

Extensive research has shown that antioxidants work best in conjunction with each other. A leading expert in the field of antioxidants, Lester Packer, PhD, has recommended taking antioxidant supplements together in order to get the networking effect which protects against disease and slows aging. This is known as the "antioxidant miracle".

Perhaps the most critical antioxidant vitamin is lipoic acid which helps to recycle or boost all the other antioxidants such as CoQ10, vitamin C and Vitamin E. Subsequent research has shown glutathione is also critical since it helps to detoxify carcinogens from the body. When all the antioxidants are working together it causes an amazing synergy in the body against the effect of free radicals.

Fruits and vegetables serve as great antioxidant foods and should be eaten as part of a normal healthy diet. These foods taken together with antioxidant vitamins leads to a formidable antioxidant and antiaging defense against the ravages of oxidation and free radicals.
