Bromelain is nature's blood thinner and also works as a natural anti-inflammatory
Bromelain is a protein digesting enzyme found in the stem of the pineapple fruit. It is widely used for reducing muscle and tissue
inflammation as well as digestive problems.
This healing herb works by breaking down fibrin a blood-clotting protein. This makes bromelain work as a natural blood thinner and anti-inflammatory. In treating muscle aches or strains, a dosage of 500 milligrams can be taken three times per day for up to two weeks.
This reduces swelling in the injured area and increases blood flow allowing the area to heal more quickly. It also helps to reduce pain while the injury is healing working much like aspirin.
As a medicinal herb it also helps those suffering from bone and joint pain caused by arthritis. Gout, a form of arthritis causes sudden attacks of extreme joint pain. Studies have found that taking
a bromelain supplement regularly can reduce pain during attacks and can decrease the number of attacks.
Bromelain has also been found to be helpful in treating upper respiratory problems such as sinusitis and bronchitis. With these ailments 500 milligrams of
this medicinal herb should be taken twice a day between meals.
It has also been suggested, although there is little scientific evidence to prove it, that
this natural herb will help with eczema. Consult a dermatologist before
attempting to apply as a treatment.
People who are taking blood thinning medications, prescription anti-inflammatory medications
or have an active ulcer should check with an alternative health doctor before beginning a bromelain supplement.
This herb may cause an allergic
reaction such as itchy eyes, runny nose and sore throat, so take a small dosage before beginning the normal
herbal supplemental recommendation to make sure there is no reaction to it.
Side effects associated with this natural herb include: nausea, vomiting, skin rash, and excess menstrual bleeding but they are rare and
only seem to occur in people taking more than the recommended dosage.
