Chondroitin and glucosamine supplements when taken in combination are effective in relieving joint pain and cartilage repair
Chondroitin is a
natural supplement that helps protect joint cartilage
tissue. In combination with glucosamine it helps to relieve joint pain caused
by osteoarthritis and other joint diseases.
Glucosamine supplements have fewer side effects than other arthritis pain relief treatments. This is a benefit that many people who suffer
from stomach irritation caused by other medicines, are attracted to. Studies
show that glucosamine and chondroitin when used in cartilage repair actually
is effective in increasing join mobility and slowing the
degenerative joint disease process.
Supplements containing both of these natural elements have been found to be especially effective in treating hip and knee joint pain caused
by osteoarthritis, but may not necessarily help with other joint pain or other
forms of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis. Side effects are few and very
rare although very little is known about long-term use.
Both medicinal supplements can be taken in tablet, powder or capsule form and is often found in combination with
other arthritis supplements. These supplements often
contain glucosamine,
MSM,
bromelain,
zinc, manganese and other vitamins.
Synthetically produced chondroitin generally has greater standardized levels of
quality than those derived from cow or shark cartilage.
Natural supplements take time to build up their effect and set up protection for the cartilage
and joints which means many people do not see significant results for at least
one to two months. However, once the supplements begin working the joint relief
effects last longer than other arthritis pain relievers. Because chondroitin
takes longer to work you may want to continue taking other arthritis treatments.
It may cause excessive bleeding if taken with blood thinning medication
or daily aspirin treatments. It is also not recommended for women who
are pregnant.
