Why you should use only synthetic or pharmacy grade melatonin

Melatonin labeled as natural, animal or bovine grade is the actual extract from the pineal gland. Although you would assume it to be of the highest and best grade grade of melatonin the problem is that if comes from animal tissue which means it may contain viruses and proteins that your immune system may respond negatively towards. The best alternative is to get pharmacy or synthetic grade melatonin. Its identical in molecular structure to the natural form without the harmful extras. Melatonin is actually one of the least toxic of all substances used or produced by our body.

Two well respected researchers Williani Regelson, M.D. and Walter Pierpaolo, M.D., Ph.D. have been researching the effects of melatonin over many years and have documented it's effectiveness in their book "The Melatonin Miracle".  Among other things one of the greatest virtues is it's anti-aging effectiveness.

Melatonin is a hormone created by the pineal gland. Our bodies produce melatonin in response to regulating our sleep-wake cycles. As we age it seems that we produce less of this valuable hormone and thus have a harder time falling asleep. Studies suggest that supplementation of anywhere from 1mg to 3mg can work as good or better than prescription sleeping medication without the harmful side effects.  Of course, it goes without saying that you should only take melatonin at night where it will do you the most good.

Don't sleep with your lights - melatonin production is stimulated by darkness

If you try to sleep with your lights on, even a small light, you're actually working against the bodies natural tendency to stimulate the pineal gland in darkness and inhibit it in the light. You may want to keep this in mind so as to gain maximum effectiveness with melatonin supplementation.
